4 ways to style a leather shacket

In case you haven’t noticed, the “shacket trend” isn’t going anywhere anytime soon despite it originally being a must-have in the fall. I must admit, I’m actually a little late to the trend because, for the longest time, I wasn’t sure how I would style an oversized shirt jacket.

And then recently, when I received my first ever shacket from French Connection via Bloomingdale’s (similar one here and here) in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it fit me and how chic it looked even over my loungewear!

So I decided to try and style it with the items I have in my closet and I found so many cute outfits in the process!

In this post, I’m sharing 4 of my favorite ways to wear this leather shirt jacket. Read on for some style inspiration.

Look #1: Layer a sweater vest over it

I love creating looks with different textures and this sweater vest allows me to do that with the leather shacket. Despite layering black on black, the vest lets the leather sleeves get some attention, too. I finished the look with leather gloves to “extend” the leather sleeves — and also just to stay warm.

Look #2: Throw it over a sweater dress

When I initially layered the leather jacket over my cashmere dress, I didn’t like it as much because it made my legs look shorter than it already is. And then I added a belt to highlight my waist — it was the missing element that made all the difference! I ended up liking this outfit a lot and decided to add a pop of color with bold blue boots.

Look #3: Use it to elevate your loungewear

When I tried on the leather shacket for the first time, I was in my comfy sweater and leggings, and I felt like the leather shirt effortlessly leveled up my loungewear game! The shirt is also designed to be oversized, so it didn’t feel restricting in any way.

Outfit details: Cropped cashmere turtleneck; Black leggings; White sneakers.

Look #4: Put a sweater over and belt it

Let the leather shirt jacket’s collars and sleeves peep through your sweater. I played with a bit of an asymmetrical “messy look” concept by leaving one end of the leather shirt out. In order to ensure my waistline is visible, I added a belt over everything.
